I Left El Paso
But I still love Chico's
Well, I haven't lived in El Paso, or even been there, but I'll be moving there in two months, and will be there for a few years. Tried looking all over LJ for some El Paso communities, and there's not a whole lot of them.

Just wondering if anyone out there can tell me something good about the town. I'm looking at moving to West El paso, near the Sunland mall.

Any tips you can give on good places to eat, hang out, or just anything would be helpful.. Thanks.

I'm a senior in Americas High School and ever since I can remember I've dreamed about leaving 'Hell Paso' when I go off to college.

As I got older I realized that I'd just be running away. I grew to recognise this place as my home and the people I love to live here.

The more I'd go out of town, though, the better El Paso looked by comparison. El Paso is my home, it's familiar, and I'm starting to love everything about it.

Several trips to Odessa, Midland, and Lubbock has made me insecure about my skin color, so I love El Paso even more because I can 'blend in' better.

I didn't even think I had a dark complection until I'd go over there.

I decided to stay home for college. I decided not to leave the people I grew up with and the people I love behind. I decided to stay where I'm most familiar, where I'd be accepted easily, and where I know I'd succeed.

It's not the best idea, but lately I've fallen inlove with the safer choice. I've been favoring familiarity.

I've decided to lock myself in my past for a couple of years until I've deemed myself ready to move on and live for my future.

It occurred to me that no one has updated this thing in like ever. So... I just want a general idea here, where are you all at? If you're not in El Paso, how long ago has it been?

Anyone else loving this weather?

I've spent my whole life saying "I love it when it rains."

The thing is, I thought I just loved rain. Sure, it's all right, but what I really meant is that "I love it when it rains in El Paso."

I've seen rain in several cities, states, and countries and I gotta say, nothing can really compare. When I was in Ireland for awhile, I remember seeing the rain come down (not a watershed event, I'll tell ya) and wishing that I could just be home for one second just to experience rain here. Other places lack the smell of wet desert, the beautifully formed clouds, and the breathtaking rainy day sunsets that El Paso seems to have all on it's own.

You Know You're From El Paso When...

You know that the only two seasons are summer and Christmas.

You know it's the first day of Spring because the wind gusts hit 50 mph.

You know that it only snows if it was at least 75 the day before.

You cringe whenever you see a CHIH MEX license plate.

You can get sunburned and wind burned in the same hour.

You can give a stranger exact directions to the Electric-Q disco in Juarez.

You don't go near the Rio Grande. Ever.

You think that anyone who lives on the West side drives a BMW and all the people
on the East side are gangsters.

The only national monuments you have been to are White Sands and the Chamizal.

You have a least four T-shirts that have "In loving memory" on the back.

You know the difference between "ya'll" and "all ya'll".

You know where the "real" first Thanksgiving took place.

You thinkg Western Playland is the place to be in the summer.

You have tried to fry an egg on the sidewalk in July.

You invest a great deal of money in hair spray in the spring.

The only thing you stocked up on for Y2K were tortillas.

You know what all those letters on the mountain stand for.

You can see three different states and two countries from your backyard.

The first place you go when you come back in town is Chico's Tacos.

When you are lost in Juarez at night, you can always find your way back by looking for
the star on the mountain.

Seeing the Asarco tower gives you that warm and fuzzy home feeling.

You have talked about leaving for about ten years, but you are still here.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from El Paso.
